For our second project, we had to make a sculpture of a moving object out of wire. We had to make the sculpture using contour lines.
Process
The first thing we did was write our name in cursive on a piece of paper. After writing our names down, we had to used the wire to make our name the way we wrote it on the paper. After that we had to make a cube using a post- it as a guide. Both making my name and making the cube was harder then I thought it was going to be. But doing this helped me get to know more about the wire and how to use it.
After making the our name and the cube, we had to do contour drawings of our hands. We had to practice since we had to make contour drawings of our objects. We finished our hand drawings and it was time to do contour drawings of the objects we picked. My object is Cinderella’s carriage, that was my little sister’s. I picked this object because I reminds me of my childhood and I thought it was going to be an interesting sculpture. The contour drawing would help us when we were building our sculptures.
Using the contour drawings and the object , I started to build my sculpture. I first started with a base of the sculpture and worked my way from the bottom up. I made the decision to make it into multiple parts. So after making the base, I worked on the wheels then attached them to the base. After I made the wheels I made three parts for the top of the carriage. While I was making the sculpture, I had to make the wire stronger so I wrapped the thinner wire around the thicker wire a couple times, which gave me some interesting line weights.
Critique Statement
To me my biggest success was getting the shapes and details that I wanted. I got the Lines and contours I wanted too. I think my biggest struggle was that my wheels didn’t have enough support and I couldn’t figure out how to make a strong support. I want feedback my overall sculpture, and as all ways I want the good and the bad feedback. I want feedback on how to make my sculpture overall better.
Final sculpture
After hearing everyone’s feedback I knew I needed to fix the support of the wheels since they were falling down. The most helpful feedback was from Tu, who showed me by wrapping the wire around the base and down the support of the wheels, would make the support stronger. I thought about putting feet on the bottom of the base to make the base more elevated, but after I put them on I didn’t like how it looked so I took them off. I struggled at first, but in the end my sculpture turned out the way I pictured it in my head.
